A couple of weeks ago we featured three stunning Madison country clubs and the homes that surround them. As promised, here’s part two. If you long to live on or near a golf course in Madison, read on.
Bishops Bay Country Club
Named among Wisconsin’s Top 10 Private Golf and Country Clubs, Bishops Bay in Middleton should be at or near the top of the list for avid golfers seeking a new home. Actually, anyone that longs for the rolling green vistas a golf course provides would do well to look at homes for sale near Bishops Bay Country Club.
Bishops Bay opened in 1995, offering golf with a backdrop of spectacular views of both the capitol and Lake Mendota. The 18-hole course features 7,160 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. But that’s not all you’ll enjoy as a member. Bishops Bay offers a lakeside patio, resort-style pool, clay tennis courts and boat docks. To learn more about the club’s nine membership categories, visit bishopsbay.com.
The gated community that goes by the same name, Bishops Bay, offers large, exquisite homes that are located on wooded lots in the middle of the golf course. Most sell in excess of $1 million and some offer striking views of Lake Mendota.
You don’t necessarily have to spend millions, however, to live in close proximity to this amazing country club. The Village of Bishops Bay offers condominiums that line the fairways along the golf course’s western edge. There are currently three homes listed for sale here, ranging in price from $450,000 to $645,000.
Nakoma Golf Club
The golf course at Nakoma Golf Club started life as a public 9-hole track in 1923. Two years later another nine holes were added, but it wasn’t until 1949 that the club went private. Today, the 105-acre country club facility offers some of the finest golf in Madison as well as swimming and tennis facilities to its members. The golf course features 6,342 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70.
There are several popular Madison neighborhoods in close proximity to the country club, including Westmorland, Highland and Seminole Hills and others. To live as close as possible to the course, however, you’ll want to view the homes for sale in the Nakoma neighborhood, specifically those located along Manitou Wy. and Iroquois and McCaffrey Drives.
Currently, you’ll find 13 homes listed for sale in the Nakoma community, priced from $254,900 to $1,275,000.
Cherokee Country Club
Homebuyers seeking more than golf may want to head north and tour the Cherokee Country Club. Billed as “the only club to feature golf, year-round tennis, a fitness center, an outdoor pool and racquetball in Madison,” it’s the ideal club for families with varied interests.
Tennis aficionados will enjoy the eight indoor and four outdoor courts. Then, there is the fitness center to round out the club’s offerings.
Open in 1964, the 18-hole golf course at Cherokee, built around protected marshland, features 6,930 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.
The area surrounding the country club offers opportunities for golf course living in Madison at affordable prices. The Cherokee Garden Condominiums, located on the course’s southern border, near the clubhouse, are worth a look if you’re on a budget or just seeking low-maintenance homeownership. There are currently 11 homes for sale here, priced from $125,000 to $229,900. Learn more about these Madison homes for sale here.
Fringing the golf course’s west side you’ll find single-family homes along Comanche Wy., and more to the north along Comanche Glen.
