Madison West Side Homes & Architecture
Many of Madison's West Side neighborhoods were built in the 1950's and 1960's. The California ranch style home concept was borrowed during this period, so if you look at homes for sale on Madison's West Side you'll often see ranch style homes featuring one-level living, double-length closets not found in older homes, and occasionally 2-car garages. You'll also see homes with finished basements and the occasional lower level spare bedroom and bathroom, although many of the basements found in homes built during this era were not intended to be finished the way the basements of new construction homes are often finished today. In addition to ranch style homes (including bi-levels, raised ranches and split levels), or its wildly popular cousin, the mid-century modern contemporary style home, other architectural styles typically found on Madison's West Side include classic 2-story colonials, tri-levels, and larger transitional style homes built in the 1980's and 1990's.
Madison West Side Lifestyles
Living on Madison's West Side is a shopper's paradise wrapped in an abundance of convenience. Although you won't necessarily be walking everywhere you want to go (like you can more typically do on Madison's near West Side), just hop into your car and you'll literally be minutes from West Towne mall, a variety of outlet malls, a large number of upscale restaurant chains, and several nice hotels. Garner Park's Opera in the Park and several community pools are also wonderful summer destinations for nearby residents. Less car-dependent than the Far West Side of Madison, Madison's West Side also offers proximity to Memorial High School, several wonderful condo communities, and easy access to the Beltline and nearby communities West of Madison such as Middleton and Cross Plains without compromising the ability to access downtown Madison in approximately 15-20 minutes.
