Town of Dunn Lifestyles
Conveniently located about a 25-minute drive from Madison, the unassuming Town of Dunn is known for its beauty, its proximity to Lake Kegonsa, and its commitment to preservation. In 1995 actor Christopher Reeve presented the Town of Dunn with one of 16 Renew America National Awards for Environmental Sustainability. The national environmental non-profit gave the Town of Dunn the award for the "Growth Management/Regional Planning" category. Since then the Town of Dunn has made tremendous advances in growth management and natural resource protection through zoning restrictions, lot size limits, conservation easements and the purchase of development rights to preserve the town's rural integrity. The Town of Dunn strives to protect its natural habitat, conserve resources, and preserve open spaces so that farming is maintained as the town's primary economic activity. It even created the first PDR (Purchase Development Rights) Program in Wisconsin through which the Town of Dunn permanently protected thousands of acres of wetlands, lakes, and farmland. By helping to maintain farming as a viable economic activity, the Town of Dunn has been able to keep taxes down for its residents and preserve its small town quality of life.
