Cities that live in the shadow of a big “sister” or “brother” have a tough row to hoe. They are typically not given credit for being a city in their own right, but treated as Hollywood’s stereotype of step-kids – relegated to “suburb” status. Fitchburg is one of those cities, sitting snugly to the south of Madison.
But, check this out: How many suburbs do you know of that have their own police, fire and emergency medical services and departments? It may be Madison’s lil’ sis, but Fitchburg, the second largest city in Dane County, boasts these services and more.
If you’ve been toying with the idea of getting out of the city and yearn to buy a home that’s still within 10 minutes, consider shopping among the homes for sale in Fitchburg.
Schools in Fitchburg
Since homes in quality school districts hold their values better than those in poor-performing districts, we applaud our clients who take the time to do the proper research. Even if you don’t have children, schools are important to a home’s value.
Three school districts serve the students of Fitchburg, depending on address. Those that live on Fitchburg’s north and west sides attend schools administered by the Madison Metropolitan School District, ranked 376 of 430 public school districts in Wisconsin.
Students on the west side of town attend Verona Area School District schools, ranked 204 of the 430 ranked public school districts in Wisconsin. Finally, south-side families send their kids to schools overseen by the Oregon School District, ranked 60 of all Wisconsin’s public school districts, according to SchoolDigger.com.
Amenities for Fitchburg residents
If you enjoy getting outdoors in your leisure time you’ll love the more than 575 acres of parkland and open space Fitchburg offers. The area’s two community parks (McGaw and McKee Farms Parks) naturally offer the most amenities but you’ll find a surprising variety at the area neighborhood parks as well.
Whether your passion is basketball, soccer or taking to some amazingly gorgeous trails, you’ll find the perfect park to do just that in Fitchburg. In fact, you can use the bike trails to not only traverse Fitchburg, but to commute to Madison as well.
If proximity to shopping and dining is your hot button, Fitchburg has you covered here as well. Head down to McKee and Fitch Hatchery Rd. In fact, our favorite Indian restaurant, Haveli, is located on McKee – stop in for the lunch buffet.
Fitchburg homes for sale
Incorporated in 1983 (yup, Fitchburg is a Millennial!), the community’s housing stock is comprised of mainly “newer” architectural styles. No mention of Fitchburg neighborhoods is complete, though, without mentioning the Seminole neighborhoods. Wildly popular, this area of Fitchburg is located just past Madison’s west side. Looking for a condo? You’ll find one here too, not to mention older homes and new construction alike.
Seminole neighborhoods include Seminole Forest, Highlands of Seminole, Seminole Glen Condos, Seminole Glen Garden, Seminole Village Condos, Seminole Ridge, Seminole Hills and Woodlands of Seminole Condos.
Of Fitchburg’s 77 homes currently for sale, 20 of them are located in the Seminole neighborhoods. They’re priced from $315,000 to $724,900 and you can learn more about them and view photos here.
