Madison Victorian Homes
Like the Colonial, the Victorian has innumerable variations ranging from the renowned Queen Anne (late Victorian) to the Folk Victorian (often associated with the National Folk/Farm house). Generally-speaking, Victorian refers to the style of home built during the rise of the machine age and popular during the long reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901).
Victorian architecture features complex shapes and elaborate detailing and often incorporates decorative details such as brackets, spindles, and patterned shingles. Strong asymmetrical facades and steeply pitched roofs are also common features. Victorian styles tend to be a mix of Greek, Gothic and Italianate forms.
The Queen Anne style employs inventive, multi-story floor plans that often include projecting wings, several porches and balconies, and multiple chimneys with decorative chimney pots. Greek Revival features large porches, entryway columns, and a front door surrounded by narrow rectangular windows.Gothic Revival was influenced by English romanticism and is marked by windows with pointed arches, exposed timbers, and steep, vaulted roofs.

Italianate features symmetrical bay windows, small chimneys set in irregular locations, tall, narrow windows, and in some cases towers.
Madison and the surrounding communities exhibit many beautiful examples of Victorian era architecture.
