Visitors have access to the lake from 11 parks, 10 public boat landings, and 7 public beaches. Fish include Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Sturgeon and Catfish. The lake's water is moderately clear. Lake Mendota’s bottom is almost 30% sand.
