More About VanChaMasShe Neighborhood

The VanChaMasShe neighborhood Fourth of July get-together continues to this day. It is known as the longest-running 4th of July celebration in the city and is augmented by arts & crafts fairs and meetings focused on the protection of vital green spaces such as nearby Hoyt Park. Mostly built in the 1950s-1960s and because the neighborhood lies directly east of Hoyt Park, VanChaMasShe homes tend to be on wooded lots and are mainly comprised of Cape Cod and other 2-story architecture styles. Area residents enjoy easy access to huge Hoyt Park, close proximity to Hilldale Mall shops, restaurants, and grocery stores, West High School, the bike path, and of course the rich and varied University Avenue corridor.

Besides the 4th of July Block Party, other neighborhood events include a May Day Celebration and Oktoberfest Party. Places of interest in VanChaMasShe include Hoyt Park, Madison School & Community Recreation Building (former Hoyt School), and Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
