What will you be doing this Labor Day? If you’re looking for some fun ways to get out of the house this long weekend, there are tons of exciting Dane County Labor Day events taking place for all ages. From movies under the stars to a food festival, concerts and more, these are some of the best Labor Day events in Madison and the surrounding communities.

Pet Friendly Outdoor Movie Night

Kick off Labor Day weekend by spending some quality time with your furry friends and other pet owners at Wisco Barbell Club’s outdoor movie event. Bring a blanket, picnic supplies and doggie treats and settle in for a special screening of Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. The lawn opens at 7:30pm and the movie will start at 8pm.

When: September 2, 2022. 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Music by the Water

Catch the last Music by the Water event for 2022 this Friday at Wingra Park. This free family-friendly gathering will feature music by Eric De Los Santos, food trucks from vendors including Bloom Bake Shop and the Chocolate Ice Cream Shoppe, fun kids activities, and boat rentals by Wingra Boats. 

When: September 2, 6pm - 9pm

Elements Free Summer Concert Series

If you haven’t made it down to the Summer in YOUR City free concert series at Lisa Link Park yet, this weekend is your last chance. The final installment will feature local group Elements along with DJ Emu, Acideon, FlowPoetry and BVDVPPLE. The evening kicks off at 5pm and will run to 9pm with innovative instruments, vocals and intelligent lighting.

Taste of Madison

Foodies won’t want to miss the Taste of Madison festival on Saturday and Sunday at Capitol Square. Now in its 40th year, this free food festival will feature over 70 vendors selling everything from BBQ to bundt cakes and cuisines from around the world including Jamaican, Indonesian, Mexican and Japanese. There will also be a wide selection of beverages and live entertainment.

When: September 3, 2:30pm - 8:30pm & September 4, 11am - 7pm

Where: Capitol Square, Madison

Race Night at Jefferson Speedway

Get the adrenaline pumping at Jefferson Speedway this Saturday when seasoned drivers will put the pedal to the metal in an attempt to outrace their opponents around the track. Race Night takes place every Saturday from 5pm to 11pm. The cost is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $5 for kids 8 and to 11. Kids under 8 get in for free.

Summer Live Jazz Series at The Cider Farm

Listen to the sounds of smooth jazz as you sip locally made cider and snack on small bites at the Cider Farm this Sunday. The Labor Day weekend Summer Live Jazz Series features Sarah Pray, who will play an eclectic mix of jazz classics dating all the way back to the 1930s and up to present day. The concert will take place in the semi-outdoors Greenhouse.

When: September 4, 2022. 6pm - 8:30pm

Shifting Gears Bike Path Dancing Festival

What better way to spend Labor Day than getting out in the fresh air and taking in some inspirational dances? The Shifting Gears Bike Path Dancing Festival brings informal dance performances to public parks and bike paths across Madison. Fun for the whole family, the festival encourages you to grab your bike, strap on your roller skates or simply walk as you take in the fun.

When: September 5, 2022. 12pm - 6pm

Where: Brittingham Park, Wirth Court Park, Olin Park Vantage, McPike Park
