date night in shorewood hills wi

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just need a night out with your special someone, you can’t go wrong heading to the Shorewood Hills area for a romantic and relaxing evening. We suggest dinner, a movie and a moonlight stroll afterward on the bike path in Shorewood Hills.

New to Madison? Shorewood Hills sits on a bluff, west of downtown. Residents here love the quaint and charming streets, dotted with trees and vintage homes. They also like one another and find any excuse they can to throw a community shindig, like the Fourth of July celebration, the Water Ballet and Ice Cream Social and Gala on the Green.

Dinner in Shorewood Hills

Is recommending a sushi restaurant in Madison becoming trite? We hope not because one of our favorites, Sushi Muramoto, is right across the street from Sundance Cinema in Hilldale Mall. You simply must try the Asian Margarita while you wait for your table (they’re typically pretty busy here). Then, if you can’t decide what to eat, we recommend the tuna sampler; you can’t go wrong with it.

After dinner drinks and a movie at Sundance

Sundance Cinemas is such an amazing theater (especially if you’re a fan of independent/foreign films) and worth a visit if you’re new to Shorewood Hills. Sure, it’s lost some of its former luster and needs a bit of a nip and tuck here and there, but you can’t beat the ambiance and the staff.

Sundance is located at Hilldale Mall and features six screens and seating and amenities designed for the movie-goer. Sundance, by the way, took the award, seven consecutive times, from Isthmus readers for the best place to watch a movie near Madison.

What we like best about Sundance is their commitment to eschew the typical movie theater concession stand. Instead, you can purchase salad, sandwiches and enjoy beer, a cocktail or a glass of wine at your seat while watching the movie – who needs to go to a bar for an after-dinner drink?

You can purchase tickets and reserve your seats in advance, online – perfect when you’re planning your date night. In fact, all seats are sold this way, according to Sundance management. But, wait. . .if you really want a diverse date night, plan on getting to the theater early so you can tour their art gallery, located across from the box office. It features a different Madison artist every three months and you can even purchase art-related merchandise there.

Moonlit stroll to wrap it up

As I write this, it’s 70 degrees and gloriously sunny outside. The weather people, however, say that we’ll see some cooling this week and even a chance of rain, so a romantic after-dinner stroll on Shorewood Hills’ bike paths may not be so romantic after all.

We will have a full moon, however, a week from tonight if you decide to make a moonlit stroll part of your date night in Shorewood Hills.

If you’re in the market for a new home, a good alternative may be a drive through Shorewood Hills’ neighborhoods. Fans of vintage homes will especially love the selection here. The oldest homes date back to the turn of the 20th century but there are new homes in the community as well. Right now, prices of homes for sale in Shorewood Hills range from $450,000 to $995,000. You can view information about and photos of these homes here.
