Lake & City Homes adds WalkScore to website

find walkable homes in Madison WIIt's well established that walking offers better health, fewer greenhouse gases, more transportation options (e.g. bicycling and busing), increased social interaction with family and neighbors, and stronger local businesses. So in its effort to match people with Homes that fit their lifestyle, we at Lake & City Homes are proud to announce the addition of WalkScore to LakeandCityHomes.com. We simply love that WalkScore ranks thousands of neighborhoods all over the country to help you find a walkable place to live. So we decided to integrate that functionality into our search capabilities and more. Here's how we do it (so far):

Search for "highly walkable" homes

A "Walk Score Minimum" field has been added to our MLS Search so you can search for homes that have high "walkability" (homes that are within walking distance of lots of desirable destinations). You can search for properties with Walk Scores that range from No Minimum to a Walk Score of 100 (considered perfect walkability), using multiples of 5.

View Walk Score results

We also added a Walk Score field to our Details page so you can see what establishments are located within walking distance of any given property without ever leaving our site. For example, below are the Walk Score results for our listing at Third Lake Ridge condominium located at 1037 Williamson Street. Walk Score measures the walkability of the address based on the property's distance to nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks and more and then assigns the property a score based on the number of points that property earns for being close to amenities in each category. Points decline as the distance approaches 1 mile (or 1.6 km) and no points are awarded for amenities further than 1 mile away. Each category is weighted equally and points are tallied to yield a score from 0 to 100.

We're super excited to finally have WalkScore integrated right into our site and want to hear how you like it. Why not tell our community of visitors what you think makes a neighborhood walkable?
